Tuesday's Children

Tuesday's Children

Tuesday's Children is a non-profit family service organization that has made a long term commitment to every individual impacted by the events of September 11, 2001 and more recently those who have been impacted by terrorist incidents worldwide. Since 2001, Tuesday's Children has promoted healing and recovery by strengthening family resilience, providing individual coping and life management skills and creating community through programs, mental health support and family engagement opportunities.

In recent years, we have expanded to provide programs, advocacy, workshops and counseling services to rescue and recovery workers such as policemen, firemen, volunteers and their families through the First Responder Alliance. We have also globally extended our services with Project Common Bond, a program designed to bring together international communities of young adults whose lives were drastically affected by acts of terrorism.

September 11th Families Association

September 11th Families' Association

The September 11th Families' Association, Inc. a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization was founded by New York City Fire Department families in November 2001 to provide information to all 9/11 families. Our mission is to unite the September 11th community, present evolving issues, and share resources for long-term recovery. The Association maintains an active database of 4,500 immediate family members of victims who died on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and passengers on the four planes. Since June 2002 the Association has published a quarterly newsletter of resources and information for 9/11 families. The Tribute WTC Visitor Center is a project of the September 11th Families' Association that offers visitors to the World Trade Center site a place where they can connect with people from the September 11th community. Through walking tours, exhibits and programs, the Tribute WTC Visitor Center offers "Person to Person History," linking visitors who want to understand and appreciate these historic events with members of the 9/11 community who experienced them firsthand. Family members, survivors, recovery workers, volunteers, and residents of Lower Manhattan volunteer at the Tribute Center to share their personal experiences with visitors. More details here PDF

National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center

National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the not-for-profit (501c3), created to oversee the design, raise the funds, and program and operate the Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center site. The Memorial & Museum will be located on eight of the 16 acres of the site.

The Memorial will remember and honor the nearly three thousand people who died in the horrific attacks of February 26, 1993, and September 11, 2001. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two pools that reside in the footprints of the original Twin Towers, surrounded by a plaza of oak trees.

The Museum will display monumental artifacts associated with the events of September 11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning and recovery that are central to telling the story of September 11 and its aftermath. It will communicate key messages that embrace both the specificity and the universal implications of the events of 9/11; document the impact of those events on individual lives, as well as on local, national, and international communities; and explore the continuing significance of these events for our global community.

My Good Deed

MyGoodDeed.org: The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance

Their mission has been focused on establishing 9/11 as an officially recognized National Day of Service, to honor the lives of the thousands who were killed and injured on 9/11, to pay tribute to the many who aided in the rescue and recovery efforts, and to rekindle the remarkable spirit of unity and service that existed in our nation in the days following 9/11. On April 21, 2009, President Barack Obama signed legislation that for the first time officially establishes September 11 as a federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance. By pledging to volunteer, perform good deeds, or engage in other forms of charitable service during the week of 9/11, you and your organization will help rekindle the remarkable spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by so many in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. And you'll help create a fitting, enduring and historic legacy in the name of those lost and injured on 9/11, and in tribute to the 9/11 first responders, rescue and recovery workers, and volunteers, and our brave military personnel who continue to serve to this day.
