Regrettably the 2012 World Trade Center Run to Remember will not be held this year.
The Run to Remember Foundation reports that due to circumstances beyond our control we cannot run the World Trade Center Run to Remember on Governor's Island this year.
Governor's Island is currently undergoing major renovations which has resulted in several of the major roadways closed. Unfortunately we have received confirmation that the roads being closed, or substantially restricted, affect our ability to conduct a run that is both safe, and enjoyable, for all of the participants. We fully intend to organize the Run to Remember in 2013 on Governor's Island.
Although we will not run this event in 2012, we encourage everyone to consider making a donation to one of the great beneficiaries involved with this event. Each beneficiary continues to do great work and your support will help them carry on their various missions.
About the Event
The Annual World Trade Center Run to Remember (WTCRTR) is a celebration of the lives of those lost on September 11, 2001. This event will offer a great opportunity for all people who were affected by the events of 9-11 to come together to remember each victim, while running, or walking, around beautiful Governors Island, in the heart of New York Harbor.
Every runner or walker will be able to personalize their running bib to identify whom they're running, or walking, to remember (see sample bibs above). The event organizers ask for your participation to ensure there's a runner/walker for each person lost on 9-11. When registering for the event online, choose from the list of victims, and other personalized information, to design the custom bib(s) of your choice.
We will pay tribute to the heroic first responders, while at the same time recognizing that there were many heroes that day, and the days that followed — and each and every victim will be remembered with equal importance.
The WTCRTR is also a fund raising event for several organizations related to 9-11. Visit the beneficiary page to find out how your run can benefit a charity.
